Two years have lapsed since the installation of this project in the Harvard Graduate School of Design backyard and 1.5 years since its migration to the Northwest Labs, but I still today receive emails from people worldwide on how to bring such a garden to their communities. Your overwhelming interest has led me to pursue a way to make this project scalable, and I am currently exploring manufacturing methods. Please stay tuned for future developments on this effort!

In the meantime, check out this video wherein the Mobile Garden has a cameo next to an art installation by Ai Weiwei, one of my favorite artists. The haunting, sculptural aggregation of 5,335 children’s backpacks creates a powerful statement for the lives lost in the 2008 Sichuan earthquake and against the lax construction standards that contributed to such atrocities.
